BRC Announces Launch of Junior Steer Riding
Bull Riders Canada is extremely proud to announce the launch of JUNIOR STEER RIDING!
StartFragment
Effective immediately, Committees will have the option to add Junior Steer Riding to their events; increasing opportunities for the next generation of rodeo athletes while providing a structured environment throughout an entire season that will culminate with the inclusion of Junior Steer Riding at the Season V Bull Riders Canada Finals!
Committees will have the option to incorporate a TIER II or a TIER I Junior Steer Riding. TIER II is for ages 12 and 13 and the cattle must be “commercial or beef” under 1000 pounds and have no horns. TIER I is for ages 14 and 15 and the cattle must be under 1000 pounds and have no horns. Further details can be found on the Bull Riders Canada website in the Membership section in the BRC Rule Book. Additionally, these details can be found on the BRC Sanction Form for Committees which can also be found in the Membership section on the BRC website.
Bull Riders Canada has made changes to the event format, lowering the usual count of 30 contestants in the long round down to 25 contestants in the long round so that Committees could afford to bring in appropriate cattle for the future generations of rodeo athletes while adding value to their event by having Junior Steer Riding.
Bull Riders Canada believes that a structured, gradual approach to the sport of rodeo (steer riding and bull riding) is appropriate. We also believe that this model will work well towards teaching younger athletes about the sport and helping them to refine their skills to pursue it as far as they wish to in the future.
